Also still present are markings indicating the weights of individuals, dates of sailings etc. Captors seem to have an obsessive need to maintain such records. The denial of the enormity of the moment is buried in the record keeping rather than in the anxiety and actions of the moment. Our records, for example, of the 'mug shot', and fingerprints of prisoners is far better than the medical records of the prisoners themselves, our even of the general population! |
